What is the setting of the Phantom of the Opera?

Phantom is set at the Palais Garnier opera house, and tells the story of a mysterious masked man who haunts the building and his growing obsession with Christine, a young soprano. It’s inspired in part by legends and historical events surrounding the real Palais Garnier.

When Christine arrived at the Opéra Garnier, she was described as “sounding like a rusty hinge”, but one person found the beauty hidden in her voice. When Erik, the Phantom of the Opera began to tutor her, he told her that he was the “Angel of Music” of whom her father had spoken.
